St. Jude Heritage Medical Group, Pediatrics
CHOC – and our pediatric subspecialists – are proud to partner with pediatricians throughout Southern California to enhance the delivery of pediatric care. Together, we’re committed to securing bright futures for children. We’d like to take a moment to introduce you to one of our community partners, St. Jude Heritage Medical Group, Pediatrics. In today’s Q & A, we learn more about this group’s philosophy of care, among other things.
How would you describe your philosophy of care?
We are passionate about children and their families. We understand the concerns, fears and pressures that parents face. What seems like a small issue to others can seem exponentially bigger in a parent’s eyes; education and reassurance can sometimes be as important as a prescription. Although clinical skills are essential, the ability to listen carefully is often almost as vital. We strive to get to know patients and their families, and develop a strong relationship based on trust.
What are your most commonly treated diagnoses?
We provide the full spectrum of care for general pediatrics, including special services such as synagis, frenulectomy and ear piercing. In addition, we have relationships throughout our field to take care of any issues that may arise.
What excites you most about practicing pediatric medicine?
We get most excited about the relationships we develop between ourselves and the families we take care of.
How has technology enhanced your practice?
Technology has allowed us to seamlessly communicate with one another. A child seen for a follow up a few days later can be seen by anybody in our group because of our ability to see what took place a few days before in our EMR. We have access to do that follow up both in the office, as well as through the patient portal. In the future, we know this information will become portable between facilities, and not just internally.
What does your group do to release stress?
We laugh…a lot.
What is one of your group’s best practices?
One never knows when illness is going to strike, and so in that regard we strive to provide same day access as much as that is possible.
How do you see health care reform impacting how you deliver care?
Health care reform has provided us with the opportunity to redesign a more efficient way of delivering quality care – something we might not have had the impetus to do without such a push. While there is uncertainty, this is an exciting time, and by working together we will be able to create improvements in care and service.
What’s the funniest question asked by one of your patients?
“If you give me extra shots, can I have an extra lollipop?”
Fictional physicians have graced the small screen for years. Which TV MD gets your group’s vote for “top doc” and why?
Dr. Heathcliff Huxtable (“The Cosby’s”). He was always available – for his patients and his children.
